Praised by Paul Badura-Skoda and Menahem Pressler for her impeccable technique and sensitive playing, Korean pianist, Jayoung Kim has established herself as a soloist, chamber musician and collaborative pianist in Korea, North America and Europe.

Kim has participated and performed in music festivals and master classes such as Lavidor, Toronto, Académie de Musique de Lausanne, IMS Prussia Cove, Aurora Summer Music Festival, Banff, Cheju, Artur Balsam, Deeper Piano Studies, Innsbrook Orford and Indiana University Summer Music Festival and worked with Menahem Pressler, Alicia de Larrocha, Andras Schiff, Paul Badura-Skoda, Rita Wagner, John Perry, Pascal Devayon, Ellen Mack, Andre Laplante, Andre Marchand, Jeremy Denk, Jeffrey Swann, and Alain Planes.  She has worked chamber music and collaborative piano with Janos Starker, Jaime Laredo, Joshua Bell, Laurence Lesser, Midori, Miriam Fried, Donald Weilerstein and Bruno Canino. 

According to the Herald Times, Kim’s orchestral debut in America with Indiana University Philharmonic Orchestra and Clifford Colnut was “powerful yet sensitive and beautiful,” and collaborations with conductors, such as David Glover and Vlad Vizireanu followed. Avid chamber musician, she has played with Lucy Chapman, Laurence Lesser, Dmitri Murrath, James Buswell, Hagai Shaham, Lynn Chang, Irina Muresanu, Jakob Koranyi among others.

Kim won the first prize at Indianapolis Matinee Musicale, Honam Arts National Competition and also Travel Grant Competition as well as national competitions in Korea such as Honam Arts Competition and Korean National Music competition. She is a laureate of International Chamber Music Competition in Boston and Académie de Musique de Lausanne and a finalist of Jean Francaix International Piano Competition. Her concerts were recorded and broadcasted by CBC (Canada) and Espace-2 (Switzerland). Her radio appearance includes NPO Opium Op4 and Spiegelzaal (the Netherlands). 

She graduated from Gwangju Arts High School with highest honor under the tutelage of Jeong-Gyu Kim from Seoul National University, and Yonsei University with honor under Bong-Ae Shin receiving Gumho Cultural Foundation Award and Yonsei Merit Scholarship. At Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music, she continued her studies with Edmund Battersby and Arnaldo Cohen winning prestigious Dean’s scholarship and Friends of Music award. In 2014, she received the doctoral diploma with the guidance of Menahem Pressler.

While pursuing her diploma, she taught at both college and pre-college at Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music as an associate instructor and DePauw University. Currently she is teaching at Dana Hall School of Music and is a staff pianist at New England conservatory and Boston University. As an Artistic Director of Wellesley Chamber Players, new chamber ensemble based in Wellesley, MA, she has been trying to connect with local people through classical chamber music.
